James A. Hughes Jr., 77 of Clinton “Hanover Twp.” Passed in the comfort of his home Friday afternoon, April 4th 2025. Born August 27th 1947 in Clinton, he was the son of the late James A. and Agnes (Brunner) Hughes. James worked as a crane operator with J&L Aliquippa Works, 14-inch division. Ernest L. Hoffman Sr. – Clinton (Independence Twp.)

Ernest L. Hoffman Sr. 90, of Clinton (Independence Twp.) passed Monday evening, March 24, 2025 at UPMC-Mercy Hospital. Born January 22, 1935 in Waynesburg. He was a son of the late Guy M. & Vista A. (Garber) Hoffman. Ernest had worked as a welder at J&L Steel Aliquippa.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie Marie (Fox) Hoffman. 2 brothers, Guy and Harold Hoffman and a sister Roberta Hoffman. Continue reading

Brett Johnson – Hookstown

Brett Johnson passed away unexpectedly on March 23, following a decline in health. He was 67. Born March 11, 1958, he was the son of the late James Bruce Johnson and Mary Lou (Boyd) Johnson.

Brett grew up in Hookstown and was a graduate of South Side Area School. He sustained a spinal injury at 23 that left him a paraplegic. Brett loved cars – always a Ford man – and especially Mustangs. He shared an interest in John Deere tractors with his dad and they spent many months restoring a Model LA which was later featured in Green Magazine. Continue reading

R. John McCoy – Aliquippa (Hanover Twp.)

R. John McCoy, 93, of Aliquippa (Hanover Twp.) passed away on Monday, March 17, at Apple Blossom Memory Care Community, Moon Township, PA.

John was born June 17, 1931 in New Brighton, PA to the late Mont and Anna (Shay) McCoy.

The first time John saw Mary Inglefield step onto the school bus, he said he knew “she was the one.” They dated through high school and married in June 1951. They were married for 63 years. Continue reading

Born November 1, 1971 in Oakdale, she is the beloved daughter of Cathy (Smitsky) McAfee and the late Charles W. McAfee. Amy J. Sickelsmith, 48 of Aliquippa (Hanover Twp.) passed unexpectedly Tuesday afternoon, February 25, 2025 in the Weirton Medical, Center. Born May 4, 1976 in Sewickley, she is the beloved daughter of JoAnn Snyder and the late Gene Sickelsmith Sr.

Mother of Dalton Sickelsmith, Trevonne Thornton, Jayden Smith, Hailey Krepps and the late Jared T. Sickelsmith and Brady Sickelsmith. Her sister, Elizabeth and her husband Todd Bost, grandchildren Jeremiah, Emmett and Klyde, aunt of Ian and his wife Nichole Sickelsmith and their children Landon & Jaxon, and Jacob Williams. In addition to her father and sons, she was preceded by a brother Gene Sickelsmith Jr. and her stepfather Roy Snyder. Continue reading

William F. “Bill” Coon – Clinton (Independence Twp.)

William F. “Bill” Coon, 90 of Clinton (Independence Twp.) passed Monday morning February 24, 2025 in the comfort of his home with family at his side. Born December 29, 1934 in Carlisle, PA. He was a son of the late Frank and Ruby (Bair) Coon. Bill was a member of the Mill Creek EPC of Hookstown and a retired heavy equipment operator and supervisor with Operating Engineers Local #66 of Pittsburgh.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son-in-law Darrell Musser and 2 sisters, Margaret Smalley and Faye Coon. Continue reading

LeBaron Lewis (Barry) 85 of Hookstown (Hanover Twp.) passed Thursday afternoon, February 20, 2025 at Heritage Valley Sewickley with family at his side. Born March 14, 1939 in Philipsburg, PA., he was the son of the late George and Marion (Rothrock) Lewis.

LeBaron had worked on the ramp with US Airways for over 32 years and drove bus for South Side School district for another 23 years. He was a member of the Frankfort Springs Presbyterian Church. Continue reading
