Robert Eugene Bender – Hookstown (formerly of Confluence)

Robert Eugene Bender, 90 of Hookstown (formerly of Confluence) passed Friday morning, September 18, 2026 in the comfort of his home with family at his side. Born August 4, 1936 in Listenburg, Pa., he was the last surviving son of the late Carl & Ruth (Foy) Bender. Robert was a veteran of the US Army and had worked as a truck driver for the Keystone Lime Stone Co. for over 42 years. He also worked as a funeral directors’ assistant at the Humbert Funeral Home in Confluence. While living in Hookstown he attended the Millcreek EPC of Hookstown.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Myrna J. (Burnworth) Bender, his daughters are Susan & Barry Sullenberger and Sandra & Ernest Fritz, grandfather of Tessa & Arin Fritz, his nephews are Jerry & Chris Bender and Terry & Cathy Bender and a dear friend Josiah Swayngim.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother and his wife, Carl Jr. & Phyllis Bender, a sister-in-law Dorothy Harter, his nephew Michael Harter.

Family and friends may call at the MCCONNELL FUNERAL HOME, 447 Pine St., Hookstown, Pa. 15050 Sunday, September 20th from 1 pm until the time of his service at 3 pm. His pastor Rev. Abby Opal will officiate. Additional visitation will be held Monday the 21st at the HUMBERT FUNERAL HOME, 704 Logan Pl., Confluence, Pa. 15424 from 3 pm until the time of service at 6 pm. Pastor Valerie Stark will officiate.
