James H. Garren, of Georgetown (Hanover Twp.), died unexpectedly Tuesday morning, March 31, 2015, in the comfort of his home.

Born October 14, 1926, in Findlay Twp., a son of the late James Albert and Marie (Pape) Garren. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army as a Private First Class, a retired steelworker with LTV Steel. He was also a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church, a member of the South Side Area Senior Citizens Group, the Frankfort Springs Grange No. 1989 and also a member of the Appalachian Folk Music Club and the Hookstown American Legion. Helen W. Scott, 87, of Shippingport, died quietly Monday evening, March 30, 2015, at Good Samaritan Hospice, Beaver.

Born October 30, 1927, in East Liverpool, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Gladys (Berry) Pallard. Mrs. Scott had worked at the Shippingport Post Office for 32 years, retiring as postmaster. She was a member of Green Valley Methodist Church of Shippingport, where she also served as organist and Sunday school teacher. She was a member of the Midland Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a former mayor of Shippingport, and prior to that had served many years on council. Continue reading →

Lenora G. Ramsey, 92, of Burgettstown (Hanover Twp.) died Tuesday morning, March 17, 2015 at the Weirton Medical Center, Weirton, WV.

Born November 11, 1922, in Wick, WV, she was the last surviving child born to the late Clyde Osborne and Anna Dell (Atkinson) Ash.  She had worked as a secretary at Raccoon State Park and was a willing workers member of the Frankfort Springs Presbyterian Church. Continue reading →

Betty Eva Call, 100, of Aliquippa (Shippingport Boro), died Tuesday morning, March 3, 2015, in the comfort of her home surrounded by her family.

Born March 31, 1914, in Donora, PA. She had retired as a cook from the Monaca Inn, was an avid bingo player and was a member of the Shippingport Senior Citizens Group, enjoying their many bus trips together. She enjoyed her time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Continue reading →

Betty Jean Anderson, 82, of Georgetown (Hanover Twp.) died Friday evening, February 27, 2015, unexpectedly at her residence.

Born Feb. 17, 1933, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late Raymond E. and Mary Almyra (Allison) Anderson, Betty was a graduate of Burgettstown Union High School. She was a member of the 25 Year Club of Weirton Steel retirees; a member of Life Steps of Beaver County, where she enjoyed playing games with her numerous friends, and watching TV and movies.  She was an avid animal lover with a special fondness for horses, dogs and cats.  Continue reading →

Adrian Vincent “Ace” Cunningham Sr., 67, of Hookstown (Greene Twp.), died Monday evening, February 9, 2015, at Heritage Valley Beaver.

Born March 10, 1947, in Wellsville, OH, a son of the late Claire and Genevieve (Rohrbaugh) Cunningham. Ace retired from the Homer Laughlin Co., Newell, WV, where he had worked as a millwright, and also had worked as a laborer for Greene Twp. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. An awesome Pappy, he enjoyed time with his grandchildren and family. He was a generous giver and dedicated worker. Joy Lynn Nola (Wells) “Jo”, died unexpectedly on Friday, February 6, 2015, at the age of 39. Joy was a lifelong resident of Ohioville Borough, PA where she lived in her childhood home with her husband Michael Nola II, their beautiful little boy, Michael Stephen Nola III (Mikey) 4, and her stepson Jacob Michael Mallinder (Jake), 19.

Joy was born in Aliquippa, PA on August 27, 1975 to Jerry and Linda Wells. Joy is sister to Jeffrey Wells, Lori Coukart, and Dr. Hope Moser; aunt to Katrina Lynn Nola, 23; Ashante Alana Nola Harris, 18; Molly Moser, 17; Cassady Coukart, 16; Macey Moser, 13; McKenna Coukart, 13; and her nephews; Ethan Wells, 12; Evan Wells, 10, and Alexander Kane Nola Freeman, 5.
