Rudolph “Rudy” Livada Jr., 81, of Hookstown (Hanover Twp.), died unexpectedly Monday evening, May 18, 2015, at his Hookstown residence.

Born in Hookstown on May 12, 1934, he was a son of the late Rudolph Sr. and Katherine (Kolorich) Livada. He had worked for 21 years with the Tellish Construction Company of Hookstown and was a member of the United Steelworkers organization, previously working for LTV Steel, Aliquippa Works. Jack A. Robison, 86, of Monaca (Center Twp.), died Thursday evening May 14, 2015 at Beaver Valley Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

Born May 10, 1929, in Aliquippa, he was the last surviving child born to the late William and Elizabeth (Campbell) Robison. Mr. Robison was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Navy and was retired from Westinghouse, Vanport, after 40 years of service where he worked as a store room attendant. Continue reading →

Gary L. Frazier, 64, of Georgetown (Hanover Twp.), died unexpectedly Thursday afternoon, May 7, 2015, at his Georgetown residence.

Born September 16, 1950, in Steubenville, OH, he was a son of Doris E. (Ryan) Frazier of Georgetown and the late Loyd J. Frazier. A steelworker at Weirton Steel, he was a member of the Weirton Steel 25 Year Club, Hookstown American Legion, the Bethel United Methodist Church, and was a former member of the U.S. Army Reserves. Elsie L. Irons, 86, of Wellsville, Ohio, died Friday morning, April 10, 2015, at Calcutta Health Care.

Born September 23, 1928, in Perry Twp., PA, she was a daughter of the late William and Myrtle (Wigley) Stiefel. A wife, mother and homemaker, Elsie had also worked at the former Aliquippa Hills Department Store and the Phoenix Glass Company, Monaca, and had waitressed in Monaca and Aliquippa. James H. Garren, of Georgetown (Hanover Twp.), died unexpectedly Tuesday morning, March 31, 2015, in the comfort of his home.

Born October 14, 1926, in Findlay Twp., a son of the late James Albert and Marie (Pape) Garren. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army as a Private First Class, a retired steelworker with LTV Steel. He was also a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church, a member of the South Side Area Senior Citizens Group, the Frankfort Springs Grange No. 1989 and also a member of the Appalachian Folk Music Club and the Hookstown American Legion. Helen W. Scott, 87, of Shippingport, died quietly Monday evening, March 30, 2015, at Good Samaritan Hospice, Beaver.

Born October 30, 1927, in East Liverpool, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Gladys (Berry) Pallard. Mrs. Scott had worked at the Shippingport Post Office for 32 years, retiring as postmaster. She was a member of Green Valley Methodist Church of Shippingport, where she also served as organist and Sunday school teacher. She was a member of the Midland Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a former mayor of Shippingport, and prior to that had served many years on council. Continue reading →

Lenora G. Ramsey, 92, of Burgettstown (Hanover Twp.) died Tuesday morning, March 17, 2015 at the Weirton Medical Center, Weirton, WV.

Born November 11, 1922, in Wick, WV, she was the last surviving child born to the late Clyde Osborne and Anna Dell (Atkinson) Ash.  She had worked as a secretary at Raccoon State Park and was a willing workers member of the Frankfort Springs Presbyterian Church. Continue reading →
