Robert E. Betz – Freedom

Robert E. Betz, 67, a life long resident of Freedom passed Monday afternoon June 30, 2025 in the comfort of his niece’s home surrounded by family. His passing was sudden and unexpected. Born March 24, 1958 in Rochester, he was the last surviving son of the late William Harley and Shirley May (Edge) Betz.

Bob was a proud graduate of the Freedom High School, class of 1976 and a big Bulldogs supporter. Bob started Betz First Call in 1989 (a removal/transportation company for many Beaver County funeral homes as well as surrounding funeral homes) a few years back he sold it to his nephew Larry Hodnick, who carries on Bob’s caring/compassionate ways when meeting with families at their worst time. He worked with Larry until just this past March and finally said enough. He was looking forward to some traveling and just relaxing from working so many hours for so many years. He will be remembered for his quick wit and sarcasm…always ready with a one liner or smart remark. He loved keeping in contact with former class mates on Facebook as well as family and friends. An accomplished cook, he served up many a family holiday meal from start to finish. If you were lucky enough you received a frozen bag or two of his homemade vegetable beef soup!

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, William F. Betz and Jeffrey R. Betz and a nephew Jonathan L. Betz. He is survived by a sister-in-law Judy Betz, his nieces and nephews are, Bill & Kelly Betz, Richard Betz, Amber & Larry Hodnick who took such good care of him these last few weeks, Jeff & Smanatha Betz and Dallas & Kayla Betz. Also surviving are numerous great nieces and nephews. If desired memorials in his name can go to the Beaver County Humane Society, 3394 Brodhead Rd., Aliquippa, PA. 15001.

A gathering of friends and family will be held at a later date and will be announced by Amber & Larry on Facebook. Per Bob’s wishes there will be no viewing or formal service. Cremation will take place and he will be buried with family members in the Oak Grove Cemetery Freedom. Professional services provided by the MCCONNELL FUNERAL HOME, 447 Pine St., Hookstown, PA. 15050.
