R. John McCoy – Aliquippa (Hanover Twp.)

R. John McCoy, 93, of Aliquippa (Hanover Twp.) passed away on Monday, March 17, at Apple Blossom Memory Care Community, Moon Township, PA.

John was born June 17, 1931 in New Brighton, PA to the late Mont and Anna (Shay) McCoy.

The first time John saw Mary Inglefield step onto the school bus, he said he knew “she was the one.” They dated through high school and married in June 1951. They were married for 63 years.

John was a life long farmer who started working with his father after high school. He maintained the dairy farm operation milking cows until 1986. John continued farming providing hay, corn and feed to local customers on the Bicentennial Farm. Also, John loved driving school bus for 39 years, both for South Side and Hopewell School Districts. He especially liked driving the sports teams to events and cheering for them.

John was a faithful life long member of Hanover Presbyterian Church where he served on the Session several terms. His love of God, his family and helping others was the core of John’s life.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Mary E (Inglefield) McCoy, an infant son, David, and son Robert (Bob) J McCoy, Jr. A brother Donald McCoy. His sisters and brothers in law, Jean Harshbarger (Bill), Grace Platt (John), Sara (Becky) Scarbro (Frank), Betty Brodmerkel (Bob), Ruth Rowe (Ed), Dolores Searight (David), a twin sister JoAnn McElhaney (Regis), an infant sister Beverly Joyce McCoy.

John will be remembered by his children Dennis and wife Judith McCoy, Winterville NC, Raymond and wife Maria McCoy, Aliquippa PA, Marsha and husband John Andzans, Ellsworth ME, Beverly and husband Jimmy Reed, Milford DE, daughter in law Debi McCoy, Georgetown PA. Also to remember John are seven grandchildren, Erin Patterson(Mike), Ryan McCoy (Jessica), Laura McCoy, Jason McCoy (Mallory), Mary Jo McCoy (Lindsey), Michael McCoy, Mary Ellen Russell, and six great-grandchildren, Sarah, Hannah, and David Patterson, Liam and Genevieve McCoy, Anders McCoy, and sisters in law, Fern McCoy and Flora Fulton.

2 Timothy 4:7,8. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.

Family and friends are welcome to call at the MCCONNELL FUNERAL HOME, 447 Pine St., Hookstown, Pa. 15050 on Thursday, March 20th from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. His service will be held Friday, March 21st 11 am in the Hanover Presbyterian Church, 2462 Route #18, Clinton, Pa. 15026. Rev. Jefferson Ellis officiating. EVERYONE PLEASE MEET AT THE CHURCH. He will be laid to rest in the Mill Creek Hill Cemetery; Georgetown.
