Joseph N. Grandstaff – formerly of Hankey Farms

Joseph N. Grandstaff, formerly of Hankey Farms, Pa., died peacefully in his sleep Sunday morning, October 19, 2025, at his Johnstown residence. He was 68.

Born July 19, 1957, in Pittsburgh, he was a son of the late Kenneth and Emily A. (Palumbo) Grandstaff. As a youth, Joe was an accomplished swimmer and diver. One of his many talents was riding a unicycle, a skill that showcased his fierce concentration and balance. He was an avid bowler and belonged to several leagues in Dormont. His favorite pastimes were spending time with his brothers, playing music, camping, and watching Pittsburgh sports — he lived and breathed the Panthers, Pirates, and Penguins, with a special love for the Steelers.

Prior to retirement, Joe worked in the Custodial Department at the University of Pittsburgh for more than 20 years.

He is survived by brothers David Grandstaff and Richard McDonald; his “favorite” sister, Celeste Bolea; aunts Mary Steiner and Virginia Mussomeli; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother Neal McDonald.

Per Joe’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A blessing and entombment will be held Thursday, October 30, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Cemetery columbarium in Coraopolis. All who loved Joe are invited to attend.

The family would like to thank Joe’s Nanty-Glo family for their friendship, especially Loren Croce, devoted friend and caregiver. Special thanks to Dr. Yana Najjar at UPMC and to the hospice staff for their compassionate care.
