Mary Hamm – Hookstown

Mary Hamm, 72, of the Hookstown area passed away peacefully on Friday, March 27, 2026 surrounded by family at Heritage Valley Beaver. Mary loved to spend her time with family and friends, often taking trips or grabbing dinner and a drink. She enjoyed taking care of her hanging baskets and plants while watching the hummingbirds they would attract. More than anything she loved attending all of her grandchildren’s many sporting activities and events. Mary spent many years as a stay-at-home mom taking care of her family before becoming a paraprofessional at South Side Area School district. She connected deeply with the students she worked with and became compassionate about autism awareness.

She was preceded in death by a daughter Michelle Hamm, sisters Georgia Gore and Audrey Messersmith. Her parents were the late Hazel & Pappy Lou Benson.

Mary is survived by her loving husband of almost 35 years, Richard W. Hamm, her four sons and daughters-in-laws, Tyler & Aubrey Patterson, Billy & Joanna Patterson, Chris & Amanda Hamm and Bill & Angie Hamm. Mary’s beloved treasures, her grandchildren are Alexandra, Douglas, Isabella, Evelyn, Luke, Claire, Shandy, CJ & Faelynn, as well as 3 great grandchildren Angelo, Rosario & Brayden. Also surviving are her sisters & brothers-in-laws, Marie & Jim Godfrey and Sandy & Terry Smoak. There are also relations through all of her extended relationships too numerous to list. She was surrounded by much love.

As per Mary’s wishes, there will not be any immediate funeral services. However there will be a celebration of life gathering in the near future.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family requests that donations be made in Mary’s name to the Hookstown Volunteer Fire Dept at 102 Silver Slipper Road, Hookstown, PA 15050.

Professional services provided by the MCCONNELL FUNERAL HOME, 447 Pine St., Hookstown, PA. 15050.
