Evelyn F. Geary, 95, of Aliquippa, (Hanover Twp.) died peacefully Sunday morning, November 22, 2020, at Beaver Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Beaver Falls.

Born August 26, 1925, in Aliquippa, she was a daughter of the late Elmer and Alma (Caler) Miller. A homemaker she attended the Mill Creek EPC of Hookstown.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husbands, Raymond Lokomski and Alexander Geary; her son, Charles Lokomski; two brothers, John and Fred Miller and a sister, Catherine Calhoon. Continue reading →

Betty, as she is known by her family and friends, departed this life on November 18, 2020, at age 98, to spend eternity with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Mom was born August 15, 1922, at the corner of Route 18 and Route 151 in Racoon Township to the late Mont R. and Anna (Shay) McCoy. She was their fourth daughter, with three more daughters and two sons yet to arrive.

While growing up she, along with her siblings, attended Crooks and Lower Service one-room schools. We believe this is where her lifelong love of history and interest in one-room schools began.  (This is also where the family’s “Mrs. Cotter” cookie recipe came from; we will not go into the details here). Terry W. McQuillan, 70, of Chippewa Twp. died peacefully Thursday, November 12, 2020, in the Allegheny General Hospital Pittsburgh with his wife at his side.

Born November 24, 1949 in Pittsburgh, he was a son of the late William and Audrey (McGrail) McQuillan. Terry was self-employed in the trucking industry, an avid car collector and loving husband, He was a Veteran of the Vietnam War serving as a SP4 in the U.S. Army, where he received the National Defense Service Medal; Good Conduct Medal; Army Commendation Medal; Vietnam Service Medal; three Bronze Star Medals; Vietnam Campaign Medal; two OS Bars and Sharp Shooter M-16. Mary Jane Crow Reed Courtwright, 87, of Georgetown (Hanover Twp.) died unexpectedly Saturday evening at Heritage Valley Beaver.

Born September 8, 1933, in Oakdale, she was a daughter of the late Wilbert and Hazel (Lance) Crow. A home maker, Mary Jane had also worked as a Tupperware Sales Lady, a job she was very proud of, and also as a waitress. She was a member of the Hookstown Free Methodist Church and the Ladies Society of the church. She was well known for her delicious homemade buns that were served at numerous funeral luncheons and other local events.

Kenneth L. Waxler, 90, of Hookstown, died Thursday morning, October 1, 2020, at the Beaver Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation, Beaver Falls.

Born February 17, 1930, in Zanesville, Ohio, he was a son of the late Kenneth C. and Evelyn R. (Matchett) Waxler. Ken had worked as a steelworker and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving as a corporal during the Korean War.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Ann (McDole) Waxler on April 8, 1999; three brothers, Louis, Frank and Charlie Waxler; and two sisters, Mary Hagerty McDole and Pansey Arnold. Continue reading →

Bonita Arlene Dailey, 69, of Georgetown (Greene Twp.), formerly of New Cumberland, W.V., died Sunday afternoon September 20, 2020, in the Weirton Medical Center. Born July 31, 1951, in New Martinsville, W.V. She was a daughter of the late Russell A. and Betty Lou (Rice) Dennis Mercer.

Bonita had worked as a certified CNA in the health care industry and was a member of the Hookstown Free Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 28 years, Richard E. (Dick) Dailey and a brother Russell Eugene Dennis. Continue reading →

David P. Wilson, Jr., 65, of Beaver (Brighton Twp.), died unexpectedly Sunday morning, September 13, 2020.

Born January 11, 1955, in Huntington, W.Va., he was a son of the late David Wilson, Sr. and Peggy Jo (Frazier) Wilson. He had worked as a merchant mariner and was a U.S. Navy veteran serving for 22 years. He served as a Tugmaster, and Special Warfare Combatant Craft Crew Member. Additionally, he was a crew master diver, and also worked for the Edison Chouest Offshore. He received the U.S. Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, National Defense Medal and Expert Pistol Shot Medal, and Surface Warfare Specialist Designation and many more.

Joseph T. Gates of Georgetown, Pa., 74, passed away on August 2, 2020, in the comfort of his home with his wife, Kay and his children at his bedside.

He was the son of the late John and Anna Gates and was preceded in death by his sister, Helen Fetterman and brother, Henry Gates.

He spent his working years at Weirton Steel and then went on to work at Auma Actuators.  He was honored to have served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War.  Mr. Gates was a lifelong member of the VFW and American Legion.  He enjoyed traveling and playing the slot machines.
