Betty Garrett Cain, 94, of Imperial (Findlay Twp.), left to go hunting and fishing forever with her late husband Bob. Her passing happened Thursday afternoon, January 27, 2022, at Good Samaritan Hospice Beaver. Born December 25, 1927, in Pulaski, Pa. She was the daughter of the late Carl ‘Cal’ and Freda (Crea) Garrett. A loving wife, mother and nanny. Betty was a Presbyterian by faith, Betty loved the great outdoors, especially hunting and fishing while at the family camp.

Steven August Petrella, 73, of Raccoon Twp., passed Wednesday evening, January 26, 2022, at Heritage Valley Beaver. Born May 3, 1948, in Beaver Falls, he was a son of the late Elmer and Frances (Tressler) Petrella. Steve graduated from Monaca High School, was a Vietnam veteran serving in the US Army. He trained with the 101^st Airborne, 7^th battalion, and 8^th field artillery. He retired from Nova Chemical where he worked as a chemical technician. A member of USW local #10-74. He loved camping at Butter Cup campground for the past 21 years. A member of the Board of the Aliquippa Veterans Service Center and volunteered at Helping Hands Food Pantry.

He leaves behind his wife of almost 50 years, Pamela (Mayhue) Petrella, 2 daughters Rhonda (Mark) Krupa and Stefanie Petrella, all of Raccoon Twp.. Two grandsons Austin (Tori) Petrella of Brighton Twp. and Alex (Natalie) Petrella of Cleveland. Brother of Joe (Ann) Petrella, Gary Petrella, Matt (Mary) Petrella, Cheryl (Jeff) Pickrell and Amy (Jeff) Brown. A sister-in-law Peggy (Duane) Kunzmann and brother-in-law Scott McKnight. Charles Duwayne Yoho, 69, of Raccoon Twp., passed away on January 8, 2022, following a long battle with cancer surrounded by his family. In addition to his parents, Charles E. and Geraldine Yoho, he was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Helen, his son Louis, brothers-in-law Jack Strum, Harry and Perry Russell and his nephews Jackie Strum and Kenneth Dotson.

He is survived by his daughters Carmeleda (Doug) Stiner of Plano and Ashleigh (Josh) Deal of Georgetown. His grandchildren Spencer, Andrea, Tavia and Josie. His sister Carol Strum and brother Dennis (Andrea) Yoho, sisters-in-law Norma Russell, Jennifer (Kevin) Dotson and Linda Snowden. Also numerous nieces and nephews, and his companion Kathy Walker who he adored and his neighbors Karen and Dave Pryzbius and children who he thought of as his own. Takoda Anne Eaton, 17, of Clinton (Independence Twp.), died unexpectedly Tuesday morning, January 4, 2022. She was born on September 15, 2004, in Sewickley, the beloved daughter of Brian K. and Trish (Kearns) Eaton.

Takoda was a student at Hopewell High School, she enjoyed time with her friends, Marvel Comics, movies and a wide variety of music, and adored her little brother and sister. Continue reading →

Alice M. Gardner, 92, passed from this world peacefully on Tuesday, January 4, 2022, in her home at Apple Blossom Senior Living, where she had resided for the past year.

She was born July 7, 1929, to the late Howard and Minnie (Such) Boyd and graduated from Hopewell High School. She married her husband, Donald in 1948. Cora Sue Trulli, 57, of Aliquippa (Raccoon Twp.), passed in the comfort of her home with family surrounding her on Monday evening, January 3, 2022. Born April 9, 1964, in Rochester, she was the daughter of the late Morris J. and Zona F. (Wilfong) Phillips. Cora had worked as a Mortgage Clerk in the Real estate industry.

Surviving are her significant other Paul (Critter) Crisp of Raccoon Twp., her brother Gary Phillips of Ambridge and her nieces and nephew Gary Phillips Jr., Amber (Brent) Sopko, Brienna Phillips and Berlynn Sopko. Continue reading →

Jack L. Staley, 88, of Georgetown (Hanover Twp.), passed Wednesday evening, December 22, 2021, at the Brighton Rehabilitation and Rehab Center; Brighton Twp. Born April 29, 1933, in New Cumberland West Virginia, he was the last surviving son of the late Paul and Olive May (Davidson) Staley. Jack had worked as a steel worker for 32 years, retiring in 1982 with National Steel of Weirton, he served as a CPL. In the US Army during the Korean war, was a member of the New Cumberland West Virginia Lodge#22 F & AM and former member at the Paris Presbyterian Church. Jack enjoyed camping, fishing, boating, gardening and tooling around in his Mustang.

Esther E. Anderson, 82, of Georgetown (Greene Twp.), passed Wednesday afternoon, December 22, 2021, at the Allegheny General Hospital: Pittsburgh. Born February 18, 1939, in Florence, she was a daughter of the late Ralph L. and Gladys O. (Locke) Cain. A homemaker, Esther was a member of the Mill Creek EPC of Hookstown where she had taught Sunday school. She was a graduate of Burgettstown High School and had also taught swimming at the Thompson Park Pool in East Liverpool.

Surviving are her husband of 64 years, David C. Anderson, her sons Dale Anderson of Ohio and Daniel Anderson of Hookstown and her son-in-law John D. Skidmore. Sister of Geraldine Dorn of Beaver Falls, Darlene Cain of Burgettstown and Elva Jones of Paris. Grandmother of 6, great grandmother of 1.

Patricia Mae Kavals, 73, of Hookstown, passed Sunday morning, December 19, 2021, at Trinity West Valley Hospice, Steubenville, Ohio. Born May 30, 1948, in Rochester, she was a daughter of the late Charles Bevington and Mildred Mae (Lutton) Wright. A homemaker, she enjoyed crocheting, but her greatest joy was watching her grandchildren playing sports and her children when they were young. Her whole life revolved around her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Donald Paul Kavals, her son James Wylie and her grandson Trey Kavals.

Surviving are her children and their spouses, Robert (Nicole) Kavals, William (Mara Fairley) Kavals and Michael Kavals. Sister of David Wright and Joyce Wright. Cherished grandmother of Cal Bertram, Austin, Vann, Reagan, Tenley and Guy Kavals. Continue reading →

What can I say that I haven’t already said thousands of times. Tom was the kindest, strongest, gentlest, most-decent, forgiving, confident man who I have and will ever know and loved me with all of his being as just as I will always love him.  I was safe and home in his arms.  He used to say I was Christmas to him. He will always be the complete love of my life and I cannot bare to think beyond my next breath.

Tom is the man the Lord blessed me with for 36 years and I wish I had one more day to hold him, to help him, to rest by his side. He was – and is– the wind beneath my wings and remains my strength.  But, on December 17th at noon, the Lord wrapped Tom in His arms, took him from mine, and carried him home to heal from all the physical and emotional pain and suffering he had endured for so long.  Tom passed at home, outside, in my arms.
