William M. Sutherin – BURGETTSTOWN

William M. Sutherin, 78, of Burgettstown (Hanover Township), died Friday morning, April 6, 2012, in the Washington Hospital.

Born January 30, 1934, in Washington County, he was a son of the late James M. and Doris A. (Moore) Sutherin. A retired coal miner, he was employed by Starvaggi Industries and was a member of the United Mine Workers Union. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, cutting wood and just sitting on his porch waving to friends and neighbors.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Margie (Marshall) Sutherin, on  August 28, 1985, and a granddaughter, Rebecca D. (Whitehill) Black.

Surviving are his second wife of 14 years, Betty Sue (Snyder) Sutherin; the couple would have celebrated their 15th anniversary on April 28th; his children and their spouses, Karin and her husband Dr. Frederick Potulski of New Jersey, Doris Debbie and her husband Alvin Whitehill of Georgetown, Dean and his wife Tammy Sutherin of Burgettstown, Brenda and her husband Sam Porto of Florida, and Michael and his wife Andrea Sutherin of Ohio; a brother and his wife, James and Ruth Sutherin of North Carolina; two sisters, Shirley and her husband Chuck Palmer of Maryland, and Vivian and her late husband Bob Kosto of Chester. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Friends and family are welcome to call on Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the McCONNELL FUNERAL HOME, 447 Pine St., Hookstown, Daniel M. McConnell, Owner-Director, where services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. The Rev. Paul Treese will officiate. Interment will follow in Mill Creek Hill Cemetery, Georgetown. Memorials in his name may be made to the donor’s favorite charity.
