Susan Ann Laughlin Johnson – Georgetown (Greene Township)

Susan Ann Laughlin Johnson entered eternal glory on October 19, 2017. She was born October 27, 1933, in East Liverpool City Hospital to William Benjamin Laughlin and Ann Hamilton Adams Laughlin (both deceased).

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph (Jack) Johnson.

Susan was beloved mother of Diane Elizabeth Johnson Brown (Tom) of Dormont, PA, and her son, Robert (Rob) Patrick Johnson (Jill Elizabeth) of Edmond, OK. She was proud “Grandma Susie” to Maureen Brown Koch (Brandon) and Rebecca Brown Dreger (Ryan); adoring “Suey” to Carter Johnson and Catherine (Cassie) Johnson; and smitten great-grandma to Miles Ryan Dreger. Sue is survived by her brother, William Benjamin Laughlin, Jr. (Bonnie), and nephews, David (Tiffani) Laughlin and Tommy Laughlin, all of Vancouver, WA area.

Susan was a graduate of East Liverpool City High School and Westminster College. She served as a secretary for a high-ranking military official in Alexandria, VA; served as Justice of the Peace in Greene Township, Beaver County; and worked as a teacher’s aide for the South Side School District. She was also a member of the Pittsburgh Piano Teacher’s Association. As an accomplished pianist and published songwriter, she taught piano at the Sue Johnson Piano Studio for more than 30 years in her home at Laughlin’s Corners; played with a blue-grass band (Bill Burris and the Green Valley Boys) of Shippingport, PA; sang with William & Jefferson singers; and directed GWP (God’s Wonderful People) at Hookstown Free Methodist Church, where she also played piano for several years. Most recently she was Music and Choir Director at Mill Creek Evangelical Presbyterian Church.

The family extends a heartfelt thank you to Sandy, Ernie, Marcy, Becky, Judy, Brenda, Liz, Kay, Barb, and Kathy, who volunteered round-the-clock care so Sue could rest in the comfort of her home for the remainder of her life.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, October 23, 2017, at the MCCONNELL FUNERAL HOME, 447 Pine St., Hookstown, PA 15050; and a celebration service will be led by Pastor Harper Brady, at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, October 24, 2017, at the Mill Creek Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 5005 Route 151, Hookstown, PA 15050. Everyone is asked to meet at church. A brief graveside interment service will be held immediately following at the Mill Creek Hill Cemetery, State Route 168, Georgetown, PA.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that a donation to the Mill Creek Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 5005 Route 151, Hookstown, PA 15050, be made in her memory.
