Shirley May Smitsky – Hookstown (Frankfort Springs Boro)

Shirley May Smitsky, 72, of Hookstown (Frankfort Springs Boro), died Friday morning, September 14, 2012, in the comfort of her daughter’s home, Peggy, who was at her side at her passing.

Born March 20, 1940, in Canonsburg, she was a daughter of the late John and Mary (Foflygen) McCabe. A homemaker, she loved to work in her flower garden and enjoyed making Frankfort Springs sparkle for all the holiday seasons.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Wyatt Smitsky.

Surviving are her beloved husband of 53 years, Tom Smitsky, whom she married August 9, 1959; her children and their spouses, Sherry (Ken) Mercer, Peggy (Greg) Homol, Debbie (Jim) Simpson, all of Georgetown, and John Smitsky, Hookstown; a sister, Judy Noble, Newell, WV; a sister-in-law, Marjie Smitsky, Clinton; 11 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren

Friends and family are welcome to call Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the MCCONNELL FUNERAL HOME, 447 Pine St., Hookstown, PA 15050, Daniel M. McConnell, Owner-Director, where services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. The Rev. Wilmer J. Olszewski, of the Hookstown Free Methodist Church, will officiate.

Interment will follow in Grandview Cemetery, Florence. A gathering of friends and family will follow at the Frankfort Springs grange following interment.
