Ruth Arlene (Arnold) Herron – GEORGETOWN

Ruth Arlene (Arnold) Herron, 96, of Georgetown, passed away Tuesday evening, September 10, 2013, at the Beaver Valley Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Beaver Falls.

Born June 7, 1917, in Washington County, Ruth was the daughter of the late James S. and S. Eula (Fullerton) Arnold. After growing up on the family farm, she graduated from Weirton High School in 1936 and received her teaching certificate from Slippery Rock State Teachers College in 1938. She taught grades one through eight in a one-room school in Washington County for several years. Later, in addition to being a homemaker, she was a substitute teacher in the South Side Area Schools for 20 years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry D. Herron; a sister, M. Irene Arnold, and sister-in-law, Dorothy Arnold.

Ruth loved gardening, reading, traveling, writing and receiving letters. She was a member of Frankfort Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday school for more than 50 years. She was an active member of the Willing Workers Circle and various church offices including Elder and Trustee. She was a longtime member of the Beaver-Lawrence Farm Bureau and the Red Hat Society.

Surviving are sons, Harry J. and his wife Tanya Herron, Georgetown; Gail and his wife Sondra Herron, Beaver Falls, and Ivan and his wife Gina Herron, Elgin, IL; her daughters, Janet and her husband Craig Leutzinger, Lawrenceville, GA, and Marsha and her husband Dale Weaver, Westborough, MA; 11 grandchildren, Neal (Julie) Herron of KY, Brian (Alicia) Herron of FL, Christopher Leutzinger of GA, Mark (Sara) Leutzinger of GA, Kristy (Mike) Stankovich of VA, Kelly (Cole) Brantley of FL, Ashley (Matt) Rich of MA, Sara Weaver of OR, and Amanda, Zachary and Bradley Herron, all of IL; three great-grandchildren, Rachel, Andrew and Aven; her brother, James F. Arnold, Weirton, WV, and brothers and sisters-in-law, Paul (Dolores) Herron, Beaver, and Eula (Robert) Swain, Chester, WV. Also surviving are many loved nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are welcome to call Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the MCCONNELL FUNERAL HOME, 447 Pine St., Hookstown, PA 15050, Daniel M. McConnell, Owner-Director. Family and friends are asked to meet at the Frankfort Presbyterian Church, 3326 Route 18, Hookstown, PA 15050, on Monday morning where her services will be conducted at 11 a.m. The Rev. Allison Bauer and the Rev. Dennis Arnold will officiate.

She will be laid to rest beside her late husband in the Mill Creek Hill Cemetery, Georgetown.
