LaVern (Douglas) Z. Pence, 85, of Aliquippa (Raccoon twp.) died Wednesday afternoon, April 12, 2023 at Heritage Valley Beaver. Born June 17, 1937 in Ingo, West Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Jesse R. & Mabel M. (Samples) Douglas. She was the devoted wife of 60 years to Gale G. Pence, who died May 28, 2015. She was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church, her second family, where she served as a deacon.

She is survived by a son David A. & Lynn Pence and her daughter Karla and her late husband Ed Jestat. Grandmother of Stephanie DeMarco, Joshua & Jessica Magnone, Breanna Jestat & Anthony Vanenzio. Great grandmother of Keaton Michalski, Gemma DeMarco, Hattie DeMarco, Maximus Vanenzio and Clayton Magnone and Levi Magnone. Sister of Katie Miller and the late Leta G. & Merle Rhines, H. Dale and Evelyn Douglas, R. Glenn & Nora Douglas, N. Lamar Douglas and Dwain Douglas. Sister-in-law of Margaret Douglas and Dorothy Douglas. Continue reading

Richard H. White – Clinton (Hanover Twp.)

Richard H. White, 83, of Clinton, PA., Hanover twp. passed away Wednesday, April 12, 2023, after a brief illness. Born September 21, 1939, in Gayley, PA., he was the son of the late Howard J. and Edna M. White.

Rich was the owner/operator of H & R Trucking before working at K & N Trucking and Waste Management. Upon his retirement in 2002, Rich worked for Halstead Dairy Farm as Sr. hay mower. Rich enjoyed riding his Harley every chance he had with his wife on the back. He was a life member of the Harley Owners Group and the Valley Hog Chapter; Beaver Falls. Rich married Ella “Checker” (Pivni) of Bairdford, PA. on October 3, 1959. They were married for 63 years. Continue reading

Mary B. LaRue – Hookstown

Mary B. LaRue, 89, of Hookstown passed peacefully on Saturday morning, April 1, 2023 with family at her side at Heritage Valley Sewickley. Born March 30, 1934 in Frankfort Springs, she was the last surviving daughter born to the late John and Laverta (Baker) Melvin.

Mary belonged to the Hookstown Free Methodist Church, worked as a meat processer at Nelson’s, also she had worked for South Side garage on the handicapped buses. Continue reading

Diane (Kovacic) McHaffie – Georgetown

Diane (Kovacic) McHaffie, 63, of Georgetown, passed Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh, following a courageous battle with cancer. Born, September 14, 1959, in Sewickley, PA, she was the daughter of the late Steve and Ann Kovacic.

She was a graduate of Aliquippa High School, Class of 1978. Diane furthered her education at the Community College of Beaver County, receiving her associate degree in Applied Sciences, Executive Secretary. Diane worked at Gateway Rehabilitation Center, Monaca, before becoming a flight attendant, where she flew for 33 years with US Airways and American Airlines, accumulating approximately 30,000 hours in the air. James M. “Picker” Shutt – Georgetown

James M. “Picker” Shutt, 77, of Georgetown, passed, Sunday, March 5, 2023, at Good Samaritan Hospice in Beaver. Born December 21, 1945, in Garrett, Indiana, he was the son of the late Edward and Shirley Woodcock Shutt.

He was a graduate of Garrett High School in Indiana, Class of 1964. Jim retired from Miller Brothers Trucking Company where he dedicated numerous years as a truck driver. Continue reading

Dorothy S. McCullough, 95, of Clinton, passed peacefully Monday morning, February 20, 2023, in the comfort of her daughter’s home. Born March 19, 1927, in Sewickley, she was a daughter of the late John and Frances (Weber) Stocklem Sr. In addition to being a homemaker, she was the Findlay township tax collector for many years retiring at the age of 89. Jayson Dean “Jake” Jordan, 59, of Hookstown (Hanover twp.) passed unexpectedly Sunday, January 29, 2023 in the comfort of his home. Born December 14, 1963 in East Liverpool, Ohio, he was a son of the late Edwin Ray and Pearl (Brown) Jordan. Jake had worked as a truck driver, a member of Teamsters Local #341, and the Hookstown Sons of the American Legion. He was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed shooting and loved his cat, Sasha. John Audley Keifer – Clinton (Hanover Twp.)

John Audley Keifer, 94, of Clinton (Hanover Twp.), passed peacefully in the comfort of his home with family at his side on Monday evening, January 16, 2023. Born May 21, 1928 in Burgettstown, he was a son of the late Leonard Criswell and Frances Nelson (Walker) Keifer. John had worked as a mill wright for J&L Steel and was a member of the Community Bible Chapel. He belonged to the Hanover VFD for over 25 years and was a 1st responder with Hanover VFD ambulance.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years Dorothea Evelyn (Crago) Keifer on March 12, 2016 and a sister and her husband Jane and John Miller. Continue reading

Lena Mae Cool, 89, of the Masonic Village in Sewickley, passed peacefully Friday morning, January 6, 2023 at the Village. A long-time resident of the Clinton and Imperial area, she was born November 6, 1933 in Hookstown. A daughter of the late William C. and Elizabet Nelson (Frazer) Simpson. Lena had worked as a practical nurse in the health care industry, she was a member of the Clinton U.P. Church for many years, a 65-year member of the Frankfort Springs Grange, Findlay twp. Senior Citizens and was secretary/treasurer with the Hopewell Hebron Cemetery for many years. Continue reading

Elizabeth P. Newbauer, 94, of Beaver (Vanport Twp.) passed Sunday evening, January 1, 2023 at the Lakeview Nursing Center in Darlington. Born January 30, 1928 in Newell, PA. she was a daughter of the late Thomas H. & Elizabeth (Rutherford) Phillips. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Richard G. Newbauer, on January 8, 2016 and her brother Thomas Phillips.

Surviving are her sons and daughters-in-laws Craig G. and Libby Newbauer and Mark R. and Robin Newbauer, a sister Virginia Czopek. Grandmother of 4, Marissa (Logan) Hoppel, Erica (John) Walker, Justin Newbauer and Morgan Newbauer. Great grandmother of 4, Harper Walker, Rolan, Rylan and Logan Hoppel. Continue reading
