Thomas E. Manning Sr. – Hookstown (Hanover Twp.)

Thomas E. Manning Sr., 86, of Hookstown (Hanover Twp.), died Thursday afternoon, September 13, 2018, at Allegheny General Hospital.

Born April 25, 1932, in Fayetteville, N.C., a son of the late Artemus and Mary L. (Davis) Manning, he was a retired caster having worked at Hussey Copper. He was a member and deacon of the Christian House Baptist Chapel, Aliquippa.

Gene E. Roberts – Aliquippa (Hanover Twp.)

Gene E. Roberts, 85, of Aliquippa (Hanover Twp.), died Monday morning, September 10, 2018, in the comfort of his granddaughter’s home, with his grandchildren by his side.

Born September 26, 1932, in Carmichaels, Pa., a son of the late Ira Roberts Sr. and Jessie Roberts, he was a retired steelworker from Jones & Laughlin Steel Corp., Aliquippa Works, and a veteran of the National Guard. He was a member of the Mount Olivet Presbyterian Church, where he also served as an elder and former Sunday school teacher. He was a Democratic committee member for many years and a Boy Scout leader for many years. He was part of the road crew and grounds crew moving to supervisor with Hanover Twp., and also a member of the Hanover Twp. Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years. He was a member of the South Side Athletic Association, volunteering for years as a coach and groundskeeper for the baseball team. Continue reading

Josephine “Jo” Laughlin, 79, of Georgetown (Greene Twp.), died peacefully Tuesday evening, September 4, 2018, in Orchards at Foxcrest, Chester, W.Va., with her entire family at her side.

Born December 20, 1938, in Newell, W.Va., the last surviving child born to the late Floyd and Helen Marie (Cebula) Geer, Jo along with her beloved husband were owners and operators of Laughlin’s Restaurant for 46 years in Georgetown retiring in 2014. HARRY BRES, Jr. Age 78, of Sturgeon, on Wednesday afternoon, August 22, 2018. Beloved husband of 59 years to Carol E. (Irwin) Bres; dearest father of Terri and Dennis McConnell, and Scott and Debbie Bres; adored Pop Pop of Zac and Taylor McConnell, Josh McConnell, Makayla and Travis Bres. Harry had worked for Ryan Homes as a construction supervisor for 38 years, retiring in 2003. Most important to him was his family, who all loved him dearly.

Donald P. Cox, 81, of Hookstown, died Saturday morning, August 18, 2018, at Heritage Valley Beaver, surrounded by his loving family.

Born December 15, 1936, in Ligonier, son of the late James Harold and Mary Matilda (Barnhart) Cox, he had worked as a laborer for Local 833 in the construction industry. He was a member of the Beaver Valley Antiques Association, and he loved to pull and restore tractors. He also enjoyed hunting and spending time with his grandchildren. Judith Ann Gayhart – Southern Pines, N.C.

Judith Ann Gayhart, of Southern Pines, N.C., passed away August 10, 2018, in her home at the age of 74.

Judy was born May 26, 1944, in Hanover Township, Pa., to the late Clyde and Evelyn Hall. Judy attended Southside High School in Hookstown. She worked in the home care and hospitality industries during her residence in Southern Pines. She was a loving and caring person who always thought of others before herself. She enjoyed camping and boating with her family, having visited all fifty states in the U.S. along with most of the Canadian provinces. She played a very active role in her grandchildren’s lives, supporting their interest in soccer as well as their pursuit in education. Judy was also an avid Pittsburg Steelers fan. Continue reading

Charles F. Falk, 74, of Hookstown (Frankfort Springs Boro), died unexpectedly Monday afternoon, August 6, 2018, at Weirton Medical Center ER.

Born February 24, 1944, in Burgettstown, he was a son of the late Carl and Alice (Pemberton) Falk. Charles was a PGA Golf Professional. A member of the Frankfort Springs United Presbyterian Church, he was a council member for Frankfort Springs Boro and was a member of the Tri-State Section PGA. He had worked as a welder for J&L Steel, now LTV Steel, and had also worked at Williams Country Club, Montour Country Club and Seven Oaks Country Club. He retired from Dick’s Sporting Goods in Steubenville as the PGA Golf Professional. Continue reading

Delano R. Johnson, 81, of Georgetown (Greene Twp.) died peacefully Wednesday afternoon, July 25, 2018, at Windsor House at St. Mary’s Alzheimer’s Center, Columbiana, Ohio, with his wife and daughters at his side.

Born October 4, 1936, in Shippingport, a son of the late Thomas Frank and Catherine (Densick) Johnson, he worked as an operating engineer with Union Local 66 in the construction industry.  He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in Korea, and was a member of the Weirton Church of the Nazarene, Weirton, W.Va.   Continue reading
