Mary Lou Johnson – Hookstown

Mary Lou Johnson, 92, of Hookstown, passed from this world on January 15, 2020, and is now at peace with the Lord. She had a recent decline in heath.

She was born on August 28, 1927, to Howard and Minnie Boyd and has a younger sister, Alice (Don) Gardner and had a brother Sam, who preceded her in death.

Mary was a graduate of Hopewell High School. She worked many years at the Melody Lane Skating Rink in Hookstown at the coat check and also at South Side High School, where she retired in 2007 after 36 years of service in the cafeteria, first in the kitchen and then as secretary to the Food Service Director. JoAnn (White) Roberts – Aliquippa (Hanover Twp.)

JoAnn (White) Roberts of Aliquippa (Hanover Twp.), went to meet her Lord, Sunday morning, January 12, 2020.

She was the daughter of the late George and Rachel (Cumpston) White. She was born in Washington, Pa. and graduated from Washington High School. She was a member of the Mt. Olivet Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday school for many years and helped with other church activities over the years. JoAnn was a Democratic Committeewoman for Hanover Twp. for over 50 years. She was a former assistant Girl Scout Leader. JoAnn had a kind heart and couldn’t leave a hurt or sick animal. She would take them home and care for them. Whatever activities her children or grandchildren were in she was there to help. You always saw a can of Coke with her. She loved to vacation in Erie with her family and loved camping. Continue reading

Donald D. ‘Denny’ Graham – Formerly of Hookstown

Donald D. ‘Denny’ Graham, 77, of Weirton, W.Va., formerly of Hookstown, died Friday evening January 3, 2020, at the West Penn Hospital, Pittsburgh.

Born May 29, 1942, in Steubenville, Ohio, a son of the late Donald W. and Martha Marie (Riser) Graham, Denny had worked as a lab technician at NOVA Chemical and was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army. Continue reading

Joe T. Brodmerkel – Frankfort Springs

Joe “T” Brodmerkel, 84, of Frankfort Springs, passed away Wednesday, December 25, 2019, at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh.

Joe was born January 26, 1935, in Burgettstown. He was the son of the late Robert M. and Edith (Tarr) Brodmerkel. Joe was a retired millwright from J&L Steel for 33 years. He served in the U.S. Navy, an avid race fan and loved spending time with his family and friends.

Mary Kaye Shutt – Georgetown

Mary Kaye Shutt, 72, of Georgetown, died Monday December 23, 2019 at Beaver Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Beaver Falls. Born January 27, 1947 in Fremont, Indiana, she was a daughter of the late Earle and Lois (Everett) Greenamyer. She was the beloved wife of James M. Shutt. Mary had worked as an accountant retiring from Thompson Agency in Georgetown.

No visitation or services, her remains will be buried on her father’s grave at a later date. Professional services provided by McConnell Funeral Home, 447 Pine St., Hookstown, PA 15050.

Thomas Wells, 86, of Hanover Twp., passed away Saturday, December 21, 2019.

Born May 19, 1933 in Roanoke, VA, he was the son of the late Nicholas and Marion (Taylor) Kines.

Surviving are two daughters, Christina (George) Tellish, Aliquippa; Joy (Randy) Frey, Cincinnati, OH; son, Mark (Tammy) Wells, Cincinnati, OH; eleven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, a half-brother, Jim (Pam) Kines, New York.

Shirley J. Shychuck – Georgetown

Shirley J. Shychuck, 68, of Georgetown (Greene Township) Pa., died Sunday, November 3, 2019, at the Beaver Medical Center following a brief illness.

Shirley was born February 12, 1951, in McKeesport. The only child of the late George and Viola (Backstrom) Dubinshak and lived in Sutersville, Pa. until getting married in 1970. She graduated from Sewickley Area (Yough) High School. Continue reading

Eric Lloyd Patterson, 38, of Slippery Rock, Pa., formerly of Hookstown, Pa., went to be with his Lord and Savior while surrounded by family on Sunday, November 3, 2019.

He is survived by his wife, Erin Paisley Patterson and son, Tyler; parents, Richard and Michelle Patterson; brother, Michael (Erin) Patterson; grandmother, Peggy Davis; parents-in-law, Don and Pam Paisley; brother-in-law, Ryan (Angel) Paisley; and nieces and nephews, Sarah, Hannah, David Patterson and Jackson and Reagan Paisley.
