Murray D. Hughes – MONACA (RACCOON TWP.)

Murray D. Hughes, 95, of Monaca (Raccoon Twp.), died Monday evening, August 5, 2013, at Heritage Valley Beaver, with his granddaughters present.

Born April 6, 1918, in Clinton, a son of the late Harry D. and Sarah (Morrow) Hughes, he was a U.S. Naval veteran of World War II having served as a gunner's mate third class.

Murray had been employed by American Bridge, retiring in 1964. A self-employed auto mechanic, he was the owner and operator of Hughes Auto Repair.

Surviving are his children and their spouses, Joyce (Rich) Milliron of Georgetown, Janice (Terry) Yost of Raccoon Twp., Judy (late Ronnie) Highberger of Raccoon Twp., Murray J. Hughes of Raccoon Twp., Larry (late Donna) Hughes of Raccoon Twp., and Pam (Tom) Yost of Hookstown. He was the brother of Howard and the late Helen Hughes of Raccoon Twp., and James Lloyd Hughes of Florida. Also surviving are 19 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lily (Barker) Hughes, on August 4, 2004; a brother, David Henry Hughes; his sisters, Alice, Hazel, Marjorie and Jeanette; a grandson, Corey Hughes; a grandson-in-law, Doug Hicks Jr., and a great-grandson, Jerry Waxler Jr.

Friends are welcome to call Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at MCCONNELL FUNERAL HOME, 447 Pine St., Hookstown, PA 15050, Daniel M. McConnell, Owner-Director, where services will be held Friday, August 9, 2013, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Wilmer J. Olszewski, of the Hookstown Free Methodist Church, will officiate.

Interment with military honors will be held at Mill Creek Hill Cemetery, Georgetown.

Memorials in his name, if desired, may be made to the Hookstown Free Methodist Church, 255 Main St., Hookstown, PA 15050.

Members of the Beaver County Special Unit will meet at the cemetery Friday at 12 noon to provide full military honors.
