Mary H. Short – HOOKSTOWN (GREENE TWP.)
Mary H. Short, 90, of Hookstown (Greene Twp.), died Friday morning, June 30, 2017, in the comfort of her home, with family at her side.
Born on the Tate family farm in Hookstown on September 13, 1926, she was the last surviving child born to the late Ralph and Pansy (Davis) Tate. A homemaker, she was a member of the Green Valley United Methodist Church, Shippingport, and was the last surviving member of the Birthday Club (a group that was started by her and her girlfriends in their teen years). She was an avid yard sale shopper. She was a loving and committed caregiver to her late son, Donald, for almost 40 years until his death.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Ambrose Short, in 1980; her son, Donald R. Short, on July 17, 2012; four brothers, Raymond, George, Dean and John Tate, and two sisters, Anna Allison and Bea Shenton.
Surviving are her children, Larry Short, Rob and his wife Glenda Short, all of Hookstown, and Jennie Barile of Ill.; four grandchildren, Ronnie, Samantha, Aiden and Ryden Short, and friend and caregiver, Pat Wojtowicz.
Family and friends are welcome to call Sunday from 12 to 2 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the MCCONNELL FUNERAL HOME, 447 Pine St., Hookstown, PA 15050, where services will be held Monday at 11 a.m., with her pastor, the Rev. Susan Pickering, of the Green Valley United Methodist Church, officiating.
She will be laid to rest in Mill Creek Hill Cemetery, Georgetown.
Memorials, if desired, may be made in her name to the Green Valley United Methodist Church, Shippingport, or the Hookstown Free Methodist Church, Hookstown.
