Lt. David Peter Sulkowski, (Ret.) – GEORGETOWN

Lt. David Peter Sulkowski (Ret.), 68, died peacefully in the comfort of his Georgetown residence on Friday, July 3, 2015, with his family at his side.

A veteran of the Vietnam War, he traveled the world as a ship’s navigator on the USS Wandank, USS Finch, USS Meeker County, USS Massey, USS Beaufort and USS Vulcan.  Retired Lt. David Sulkowski was born Nov. 3, 1946, in McKees Rocks, to the late Peter Robert and Margaret (Mayak) Sulkowski.  After 23 years of service and dedication to his country, David retired from the Navy to the home he built with his own hands in Georgetown.

David was a loving and loyal husband, father and grandfather.  He married Maria Rose (Borja) Sulkowski in the Marianna Islands in Guam in 1967.  A very brilliant man, he was known for doing whatever it took to get the job done. In 1979 David took on the task of building his family home. With nothing more than books and his God-given talents, he built a beautiful home where he lived the remainder of his life.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Sulkowski.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by children and their spouses, Dorothy (Billy) Delly, Clinton; Sean (Tammy) Sulkowski, Peach Tree City, GA; Stephen (Shanon) Sulkowski, Ventura, CA; Sandra (Tim) Flores, East Liverpool, OH; Cindy Sulkowski, Atlanta, GA, and Sheila (Chris) Guzzy, Pittsburgh, and two sisters, Patty (Bob) Janicki, Baden and Judy Mayak, Pittsburgh. He is also survived by the joys of his life, his 17 grandchildren, Brian Telesz, Elizabeth, Derek, Kirsten, Jenna, Joey, Alicia and Nicholas Sulkowski, Lindsay and Ashley Sulkowski, Timmy, Brittany, Noah, Maria, Victoria, Olivia and Elena Flores.

Family and friends are welcome to call at the MCCONNELL FUNERAL HOME, 447 Pine St., Hookstown, PA 15050, Daniel M. McConnell, Owner-Director, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. where parting prayers will be offered on Wednesday at 10 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. at the Parish Family of St. Blaise, Midland, with Father Michael Yaksick celebrant.

Entombment will follow in the Resurrection Cemetery Mausoleum, where members of the Beaver County Special Unit will meet at noon to conduct military honors for Mr. Sulkowski.
