Leon G. McElhaney Jr. – Hookstown

Leon G. McElhaney Jr., 75, of Hookstown (Greene Twp.), died unexpectedly Thursday, March 12, 2020, at his Hookstown residence.

Born July 5, 1944, in East Liverpool, Ohio, he was a son of the late Leon G. Sr. and Harriet (Korzen) McElhaney. A Veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served during the Vietnam War. He worked as a heavy equipment operator and was an avid and proud farmer, raising beef cattle. He loved his family immensely spending time with all of them was a great joy for him. He enjoyed the outdoors and hunting and was also an avid reader.

Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Barbara A. (Lentz) McElhaney whom he wed on June 20, 1964; his children and their spouses, Timothy L. McElhaney of Hookstown, Bonnie (James) Wasson IV of Hookstown, Daniel J. (Dawn) McElhaney of Hookstown, Greg J. (Tammy) McElhaney of Wellsville, Ohio and Dr. Jenifer L. Barclay of Lockport, N.Y. Also surviving are two brothers, Anthony McElhaney of N.Y. and Jeff (Margie) McElhaney of Hookstown and a sister, Mary Leah (William) Clark of Follansbee, W.Va. He was the proud grandfather of eight grandchildren.

As per his request cremation has taken place with no visitation or services. Memorials in his name can be made to one’s favorite charity.
