Joan Ellen Clayton Johnston – Shippingport (Raccoon Township)

Joan Ellen Clayton Johnston, 72, of Shippingport (Raccoon Twp.), died unexpectedly Wednesday evening, December 27, 2017, at the Heritage Valley Sewickley emergency room.

Born June 11, 1945, in New Brighton, she was a daughter of the late Karl W. and Rachel M. (Gregory) Redmond. A homemaker, Joan was a faithful member of the Christian House Baptist Chapel, Aliquippa. In the early 80’s she received a degree in Computer Science and in the 90’s she received a degree in Criminal Justice from CCBC.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Larry Clayton; two brothers, Tom and Jerry Redmond, and a granddaughter, Katryna Jeffery.

Surviving are her husband of 17 years, Elmer A. Johnston Jr., whom she married June 3, 2000; a daughter, Valerie Clayton, Aliquippa; her son and daughter-in-law, Todd and Kristin Clayton, Center Twp.; three stepsons, Mark Johnston, Aliquippa; Jeffrey Johnston, Beaver, and John Johnston, Aliquippa, and a sister and brother-in-law, Pat and Raymond Barker, Chippewa Twp. She was the beloved grandmother of Klayton Jeffery, Shae Lynne Clayton, Cody Clayton, and Jerimie, Jason and Jenna Johnston.

Family and friends are welcome to call Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at MCCONNELL FUNERAL HOME, 447 Pine St., Hookstown, PA 15050, where services will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. by Pastor Tom Knowles, of the Christian House Baptist Chapel, assisted by Rev. Wilmer J. Olszewski, of the Hookstown Free Methodist Church.

She will be laid to rest in John Anderson Memorial Cemetery, Aliquippa.
