Helen R. (McDowell) Snyder – GREENE TOWNSHIP

Helen R. (McDowell) Snyder, 97, of Greene Twp., died Thursday afternoon, June 14, 2012, at Passavant Retirement Community of Zelienople.   

Born May 14, 1915, in Hookstown, she was the last surviving child born to the late Lloyd and Grayce (Pyles) McDowell.  A homemaker, she was a lifelong member of the Mill Creek United Presbyterian Church, where she had served as a deacon. She was an original 4-H Club member of Beaver County, serving as a leader for many years for the Mechanicsburg and Hanover Agricultural 4-H Clubs. She drove the first school bus in Beaver County for Reed, Ralston and Mercer one-room schools. She was a member of the South Side Rural Chorus and her church choir. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star of Midland. She enjoyed sewing and making pies for the Hookstown Fair.

She was the beloved wife of the late Roy L. Snyder, who preceded her on May 27, 1997; the beloved mother of Reatha and her husband, Floyd Bonzo, of Rochester, Harry Lee and his late wife, Elizabeth Snyder, of Bowman, SC, Betty Jean and her husband, Ron Kier, of North Charleston, SC, and an infant son, Roy Leon Snyder Jr., who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death was a son-in-law, Jim McWilliams, five brothers and four sisters-in-law, Elbert (Edith) McDowell, Glenn (Iva Lee) McDowell, Harry McDowell, Fred (Mary) McDowell and Ray (Rosie) McDowell, and a sister and brother-in-law, Hazel (John) Hagen.

In addition to her children, also surviving are nine grandchildren and their spouses, Cliffton (Leann) Bonzo, Martin (Jennifer) Bonzo, Dale (Mary) Bonzo, Myron (Lori) Bonzo, David (Lorie) Bonzo, Sharon Snyder, Lee DeWayne (Jennifer) Snyder, Bonnie (Edward) Nagayama, and Kathy (Lee) Lorenz; 21 great-grandchildren and one great great-granddaughter. 

Friends are welcome to call Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at MCCONNELL FUNERAL HOME, 447 Pine St., Hookstown, PA 15050, Daniel M. McConnell, Owner/Direc-tor. Everyone is asked to meet at the Mill Creek United Presbyterian Church on Monday, June 18, 2012, where her services will be held at 11 a.m. with her pastor, Rev. Nathan Weller, officiating. 

She will be laid to rest beside her late husband in the Mill Creek Hill Cemetery, Georgetown. 

Her family would like to extend a big thank you to the nurses and caregivers at Harbor Light in the Passavant Retirement Community for the loving care and attention their mother received.
