Helen Elizabeth Swords – HOOKSTOWN
Helen Elizabeth Swords, 99, a longtime resident of Hookstown, died Saturday morning, Sept. 7, 2013, in the Weirton Geriatric Center, Weirton, WV.
Born Feb. 8, 1914, in McKees Rocks, PA, she was the last surviving child born to the late Melchior and Rosine (Andre) Fundanell. A homemaker, Mrs. Swords was a member of the Tomlinson Run Church of Christ of Georgetown, a member of the Hanover VFD Ladies Auxiliary, a civilian ship yard worker during World War II and she worked at the Dravo Corp. in Neville Island. She also volunteered at the band booster's stand during the Hookstown Fair for many years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard H. Swords, in 1994 and a daughter, Catherine Miller.
Surviving are her children, Geraldine Swords and John H. and his wife, Kim Swords, all of New Cumberland, WV. She is the grandmother of five,
great-grandmother of five and great-great-grandmother of two.
Friends are welcome to call at the McCONNELL FUNERAL HOME, 447 Pine Street, Hookstown, PA 15050, Daniel M. McConnell, Owner/Director, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. where her services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m., with Paul Blake officiating.
She will be laid to rest beside her late husband in the Mill Creek Hill Cemetery, Georgetown.
