Hazel L. Torrence – HOOKSTOWN

Hazel L. Torrence, 87, of Hookstown, died peacefully Wednesday afternoon, April 10, 2013, in Fox’s Stone Pear Pavilion, Chester, WV.

Born June 6, 1925, in New Cumberland, WV, she was a daughter of the late Ellwood and Gertrude Michaels Stewart. A homemaker, Hazel was a member of the Mill Creek Presbyterian Church and was retired from the South Side Area School District, where she worked as a custodian for 16 years.  

Surviving are her husband of 70 years, Alvin “Zeke” Torrence; the couple were married on December 28, 1942.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother and his wife, Roy “Bud” and Pearl Stewart, and a sister and her husband, Betty and Gilbert Allison.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are three sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Fran Torrence, Tom Torrence and Daisy Plant, and Terry Torrence; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Hugh “Skip” and Esther Stewart and Pete and Rhonda Stewart, and her sisters, Carol and her husband, Sonny Nusser; Peg and her late husband, Roy Johnson; Joy and her  late husband, Buzz Green, and Patty Stewart, and four grandchildren, Jerri Sue and her husband, Mark New; Michelle and her husband, Harry Hampson; Lisa and her husband, Eric Swanson, and Trevor Torrence. Also surviving are five great-grandchildren.

Family and friends are welcome to call in the MCCONNELL FUNERAL HOME, 447 Pine Street, Hookstown, PA  15050, Daniel M. McConnell, Owner/Director, today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. where services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev Wilmer J. Olszewski, of the Hookstown Free Methodist Church, officiating.

Interment will follow in Mill Creek Hill Cemetery, Georgetown.
