Franklin Dale Rice – Hookstown (Hanover Twp.)

Franklin Dale Rice, 79, of Hookstown (Hanover Twp.), died suddenly Sunday morning, February 4, 2018, at Alliance Health, Clinton, Okla.

Born August 9, 1938, in Charleston, W.Va., he was a son of the late John and Ruby (Gould) Rice. A carpenter by trade, he was very talented in woodworking and had a passion for gardening. No one ever left his house without a bag filled with something he grew in his garden or something he handmade. 

Surviving are his children and their spouses, Beth and Patrick Adams, Hookstown; David Rice, Hookstown; Kevin and Melissa Rice, Hookstown; Jorjean and Jason Stanton, Aliquippa; Christine Rice, Hookstown, and Eric Rice, Hookstown, and his loving companion, Cathy Kustos of Oklahoma. He was the brother of John Rice of Ohio, Tom Rice of Georgia, Joe Rice of Tennessee, Bob Rice of Gibsonia, Jerry Rice of Hookstown, Vera Halstead and Janet Hendrix, both of Florida. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Diane (Hacker) Rice, on November 13, 2007. At the time of her passing, the couple had been married for 44 years. He was also preceded by two sisters, Donna Rice and Jean Black, and a granddaughter, Dianna Rice.

Family and friends are welcome to call Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the MCCONNELL FUNERAL HOME, 447 Pine St., Hookstown, PA 15050, where services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Wilmer J. Olszewski, of the Hookstown Free Methodist Church, officiating.

He will be laid to rest beside his late wife in Mill Creek Hill Cemetery, Georgetown.
