Frances Welborn Finley – Georgetown

Frances Welborn Finley entered into her heavenly rest on March 1, 2020. She was born March 26, 1924, to Wendell H. and Lula M. (Key) Welborn in Winston-Salem, NC.

She is predeceased by her husband of 61 years, John M. Finley II, her parents, and three sisters, Anna (Polly) Nash, Betty McHaffie, and Lucy Ross. Frances was a 1942 graduate of Toronto High School, Toronto, OH. She attended Appalachian State University, Boone, NC, Mary Washington College (University), Fredericksburg, VA, Community College of Beaver County and The Pennsylvania State University – Beaver Campus. Frances was curious and loved to learn, studying world languages and nursing. She earned her AA degree in Liberal Arts from CCBC in 1982.

Frances loved her family, her friends and her Lord. She was a member of St. Luke’s Church, Georgetown, PA, where she served as organist and historian for many years. She is survived by her three children: John M. Finley III (Sharon) of Hernando, FL, Jane F. Ober (Keith) of Carlisle, PA, and Ann F. Catalano (John) of Raleigh, NC. Additionally, she is survived by two granddaughters, Dr. Courtney A. Ober of Homewood, AL, and Jillian S. Catalano of Raleigh, NC.

Frances’ family is grateful for her caregiver, Nina West, her nephew, Mickey McHaffie, and her friends Wilda Mackall and Jean Pond who helped her live independently in her home. The family deeply appreciates the compassionate care given by the nurses and doctors of Heritage Valley, Sewickley Critical Care Unit and Good Samaritan Hospice.

The family asks that, if desired, memorial gifts be made to Frances’ church, St. Luke’s Church, Georgetown, PA or to Good Samaritan Hospice at Heritage Valley, Beaver, PA.

A service of celebration of Frances’ life will be held when larger gatherings are permitted at St. Luke’s Church, Georgetown, PA. Funeral arrangements were by McConnell Funeral Home, Hookstown, PA.
